The MTW Division (Mechanical Typewriter) was started in 1977, entered into this market as the fourth and the last entrant in this business. Soon gained a position of second in-terms of volume as a reputed company for quality and performance within a short span of time. Today 90-95% of the Typewriters are exported to Asian and Western Countries and has remained as key player in this business.
The manufacturing facility at Chennai has a fully integrated facility comprising of sheet metal press, drilling, tapping, spin and orbital rivetting, grinding, auto turning, rack milling, gear hobbing and special purpose machines set-up in modules for handling critical components used in Typewriters, The manufacturing facility also consists of specialised facilities for type solder segments, metal finishing facilties viz., nickel and chromium plating, phosphating, painting and hardening of wear parts for Typewriters. The Typewriter manufacturing is supported by integrated facilities viz. Tool Room, Press Shop and precision plastic injection moulding.
The Manual Typewriters are produced in five carriage lengths viz.30cm, 35cm, 42cm, 49cm and 64cm in varying pitches of 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12. The product range consists of 14 Indian Languages as well in Latin, Cyrillic, Korean, Thai, Sinhala, Munir Bengali, Laos, Khemer, Burmese and Arabic.
The installed capacity is 35000 Nos. per annum and offers the largest base for OE Manufacturing for leading Brands world wide.
FAL has the distinction of receiving Export Excellence Awards from Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) for the last four years consecutively for export of Mechanical Typewriters for developing and developed countries and has been accredited "Export House" status by DGFT, Government of India.
